Behnam Imani, President of the International Refugee Sports Federation (IRSF), held a constructive meeting with Master Vahid Sarlak, Head Coach and Team Supervisor of the Olympic Refugee Judo Team.

During the meeting, key discussions focused on strengthening refugee judo at both amateur and professional levels, developing sustainable training structures, talent identification, and creating clear pathways for athletes from grassroots participation to elite competition.

The dialogue also addressed the situation of talented athletes from various countries around the world who, due to social, economic, or political challenges, are deprived of access to proper sports facilities and resources. Both sides emphasized the importance of international cooperation, equal opportunities, equipment support, and educational programs to empower these athletes and unlock their full potential.

Special appreciation was expressed for Master Vahid Sarlak for his outstanding commitment, leadership, and long-term contribution to refugee sports. He has served as the Head Coach of the Olympic Refugee Judo Team at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, playing a vital role in athlete development, performance excellence, and the promotion of Olympic values among refugee athletes. His professionalism, experience, and dedication have been instrumental in inspiring resilience, discipline, and hope within the team.

This meaningful meeting highlighted the shared commitment to using sport as a powerful tool for empowerment, dignity, and unity, while reinforcing the mission to support refugee and under-resourced athletes on their journey toward excellence.

Sport for hope. Sport for dignity. Sport for excellence.
